BS 5306-3 Service Schedule
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires all non-domestic premises to maintain fire extinguishers. BS 5306-3 sets the required servicing schedule:
Visual check by your responsible person — confirm extinguishers are in place, unobstructed, pressure gauge in green zone, no visible damage. Takes 2 minutes. Record in logbook.
Basic service by a competent person — full visual inspection, weight verification, pressure gauge check, operating instructions legible, tamper seal replaced. Service label attached. From £15 + VAT per extinguisher.
Extended service — discharge test, internal examination, refill and recharge for most extinguisher types. CO2 extinguishers require visual inspection and weight verification only at 5 years (no discharge). Carried out by our qualified engineers.
Extended service with discharge test and (where applicable) hydrostatic pressure test. Full internal examination. Extinguishers that fail are flagged for immediate replacement — we carry stock on the van.
Your local fire authority inspects commercial premises across Blackburn. Non-compliant extinguishers and missing service records can result in enforcement notices and prosecution.
