What is the difference between an annual service and a five-year extended service?+

A five-year extended service (sometimes called a discharge test or overhaul) involves discharging the extinguisher, inspecting the inside of the body for corrosion, refilling it with the correct media and re-pressurising it. The extended service proves the extinguisher actually works. CO2 extinguishers have a different regime — a hydraulic pressure test every 10 years rather than a five-year discharge.
