WHY MONITOR

When a Sounding Alarm Isn't Enough

A fire alarm that only sounds on-site relies on someone hearing it and knowing what to do. If your premises are unoccupied at night, at weekends, or during holidays — or if occupants are vulnerable, remote, or sleeping — an audible alarm alone may not protect lives or property. Fire alarm monitoring ensures that every activation is verified and acted on, every minute of every day, by trained ARC operators.

Unoccupied Premises

If your building is empty outside working hours, an unmonitored alarm has no one to alert. Monitoring ensures the Fire & Rescue Service is called even when no one is on site.

Sleeping Occupants

Hotels, HMOs, and care homes need rapid response. The ARC contacts keyholders and the fire service the moment a signal is received — not when someone wakes up to the sound.

Insurance Requirements

Most commercial insurers require monitored fire detection for higher-risk premises. A monitored system can reduce premiums and is often a condition of cover.

Path-Fault Detection

Dual-path monitoring detects if your IP or cellular path is cut or fails — a common entry method for arsonists. The ARC receives the tamper signal and responds immediately.

24/7/365 Response

The ARC never closes. Bank holidays, Christmas, 3am on a Sunday — your alarm is always watched by trained, vetted operators.

Fire Risk Assessment

Your fire risk assessment may identify monitoring as a necessary control measure for detection and warning. We help you meet that requirement.

MONITORING OPTIONS

Types of Fire Alarm Monitoring

The right monitoring solution depends on your fire risk, premises type, and insurance requirements. We survey your site and recommend the most appropriate signalling path — from IP/broadband monitoring to insurance-approved dual-path 4G/5G monitoring.

DUAL-PATH

Dual-Path 4G/5G Monitoring

Dual-signalling monitoring using both an IP/broadband connection and a 4G/5G cellular path. If one path is cut or fails, the ARC still receives the signal — the industry standard for higher-risk premises and insurance requirements.

  • Dual-path signalling (IP + 4G/5G cellular)
  • Automatic path-fault detection
  • ARC response within 45 seconds
  • BS 8243 compliant
  • Insurance-approved for most commercial risks
  • £31.25/month (billed annually) or £39.58/month
GRADE 2 / SP

IP / Broadband Monitoring

Monitoring via a secure broadband/IP connection — ideal for premises with VoIP phone systems or no traditional phone line. Faster signal transmission and real-time system health reporting. Low or no 4G/5G signal at your site? Not a problem — IP/broadband monitoring keeps you fully covered without relying on cellular networks.

  • IP/broadband signalling path
  • Real-time panel status reporting
  • No phone line required
  • Compatible with VoIP-only sites
  • Ideal for low/no 4G/5G signal areas
  • £31.25/month (billed annually) or £39.58/month

How Fire Alarm Monitoring Works

Four steps from survey to 24/7 active monitoring.

01

System Assessment

We survey your existing fire alarm panel to confirm monitoring compatibility and recommend the right signalling grade for your risk profile and insurance requirements.

02

Signalling Device Installed

Our engineers install the appropriate signalling device (dual-path 4G/5G unit or IP module) and connect it to your panel and transmission path.

03

ARC Registration

Your system is registered with our NSI Gold Alarm Receiving Centre. We configure your call-out protocol, keyholder list, and escalation procedure.

04

24/7 Active Monitoring

Your fire alarm is monitored around the clock. On activation, the ARC verifies the signal and immediately contacts your nominated keyholders and the Fire & Rescue Service.

Premises We Monitor

Fire alarm monitoring for every type of commercial premises — nationwide.

Offices & Commercial
Factories & Warehouses

Fire Alarm Monitoring FAQs

Common questions about commercial fire alarm monitoring, ARC response, costs and compliance.

Is fire alarm monitoring a legal requirement in the UK?+

There is no blanket legal requirement for all commercial premises to have monitored fire alarms. However, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires that your fire risk assessment identifies how a fire will be detected and how occupants will be alerted — particularly in premises where people sleep, are remote from the alarm, or where there is no one to raise the alarm. For many of these premises, monitoring is the only way to meet the requirement. Your insurer may also mandate monitored fire detection as a condition of cover.

What is an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC)?+

An Alarm Receiving Centre is a permanently staffed, NSI or SSAIB-accredited facility that receives alarm signals from your fire alarm system 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. When a signal is received, trained operators follow a pre-agreed procedure — verifying the signal and contacting your nominated keyholders and, where appropriate, the Fire & Rescue Service. FireJet uses an NSI Gold-accredited ARC.

What is dual-path 4G/5G monitoring and do I need it?+

Dual-path 4G/5G monitoring is a signalling system that transmits alarm signals over both an IP/broadband connection and a separate 4G/5G cellular path simultaneously. If one path is cut or fails, the ARC still receives the signal. It is the industry standard for higher-risk commercial premises and is frequently required by insurers. If your premises have a high fire risk, are unoccupied for long periods, or your insurer specifies it, dual-path monitoring is recommended.

How much does fire alarm monitoring cost?+

Our fire alarm monitoring is £31.25 per month when billed annually, or £39.58 per month when billed monthly — the same price for both dual-path 4G/5G and IP/broadband monitoring. Installation of the signalling device is a one-off charge. Contact us for a fixed-price quote.

Can you monitor my existing fire alarm system?+

In most cases, yes. As long as your fire alarm panel has compatible output terminals (typically labelled as 'remote output' or 'fire relay'), we can connect a monitoring device. We work with all major panel manufacturers including Advanced, C-TEC, Hochiki, Apollo, and Kentec. Our engineer will confirm compatibility during the free site survey.

What happens when my fire alarm activates?+

When your alarm activates, the signalling device transmits a fire signal to the ARC. The ARC operator follows your pre-agreed call-out protocol — typically contacting the first nominated keyholder, then the second, and where the protocol specifies, calling the Fire & Rescue Service directly. The ARC will not call 999 unless your protocol instructs them to, to avoid false alarm call-outs. You can change your protocol at any time.

Do you monitor fire alarms nationwide?+

Yes. Fire alarm monitoring is a remote service — the signalling device on your premises communicates with the ARC over telephone, GSM, or broadband, so your physical location does not affect the service. We install the monitoring device nationwide and provide ongoing monitoring and maintenance across the whole of the UK from our Chorley, Lancashire headquarters.

What happens if my phone line is cut?+

If you have dual-path 4G/5G monitoring, the system detects the line cut and transmits the alarm over the 4G/5G cellular backup path, so the ARC still receives the signal. The signalling device also sends a daily auto-test signal so line faults are detected promptly. For this reason, we recommend dual-path monitoring for higher-risk premises where line-cut detection is important.
